I have been a professional pianist, piano teacher and accompanist since 2012, having previously worked in the academic world as a researcher and tutor in philosophy. Music has always been my passion and a very serious sideline, eventually leading to me taking a decision to change my career direction and make it my full-time living. I love the combination of delving into the secrets of great piano music in my practice time, and teaching children and adults, as well as working closely with singers and other musicians and playing for two choirs. I find teaching and accompanying hugely rewarding, making me reflect on music in completely novel ways. My musical career has also taken me away from the danger of isolation that went with academic research, encouraging creative, rewarding interaction. I also love performing in concerts and for private functions, weddings and other events both as a soloist and an accompanist – ultimately I think music is for sharing!
